This card has a maximum annual fee of $695 (see rates and fees). But with that comes a series of amazing benefits such as $200 in travel credits, up to $200 in free Uber rides, airport check-in, up to $179 to pay for CLEAR membership, up to $100 in credit for Global Entry or PreCheck, and more. These benefits can easily exceed the annual fee.

The American Express® Gold Card is another strong option. The card is currently offering a welcome bonus of 60 points after spending $4,000 within six months of card membership. But just like the Platinum Card, you can qualify for a premium offer through CardMatch.

Important notice: American Express Membership Rewards charges 0.06 cents per point up to a maximum of $99 when you transfer from American Express Membership Rewards to a US airline. This one is obvious. Yes, you can earn SkyMiles by flying Delta. But it’s no longer the easiest way to earn Delta SkyMiles.

The days of earning miles based on how many miles you fly are gone. Today, regular SkyMiles members earn 5x SkyMiles for every dollar spent on Delta flights. You can manage these numbers by paying for your flight with a real credit card or getting Delta status – more on that in a moment.

But to earn Delta SkyMiles on your flight, you must book a main cabin ticket or higher. As of December 2021, Delta Basic Economy tickets will no longer earn SkyMiles or credit for Delta Medallion status.

So let’s say you spend $200 on a Delta main cabin ticket from Chicago-O’Hare (ORD) to Atlanta (ATL). After taking that flight, you’ll only earn 1,000 SkyMiles in your account – the taxes and fees you pay on each flight ticket don’t count toward your earned miles.

But you can also earn Delta SkyMiles by flying some of Delta’s partner airlines like Air France, KLM, and many others. This is where it gets tricky.

Delta’s Medallion program isn’t for everyone, but it’s a great way to earn extra SkyMiles if you can afford it.

The higher you climb the Delta Status ladder, the bigger bonuses you get on Delta purchases. The lowest tier is Silver Medallion, and with that, you’ll earn 7x SkyMiles on all Delta purchases. Gold members earn 8x, while Platinum members earn 9x SkyMiles. Above is Diamond, and those members earn 11x SkyMiles on Delta purchases.
