Education requirements for a career in social work vary depending on the field of work and your state’s licensing requirements. The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredits the program at Concordia University of Wisconsin and Ann Arbor (CUWAA).

But to pass the licensing exam, you must graduate from a CSWE-accredited school. Becoming a licensed social worker allows you to practice as a professional and excel in future social work graduate programs.

A bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) is the minimum requirement for most states to become a licensed social worker. A bachelor’s degree gives you general knowledge of the field. Individuals with a BSW work in direct service settings such as individual and family services.

However, if you want to advance your degree and/or expand your career opportunities, you should consider a master’s degree in social work (MSW). An MSW allows graduates to specialize in mental health or child welfare, as well as clinical and administrative positions. Achieving a clinical degree provides the opportunity to work as a private therapist and run your own mental health business.

Deciding which degree to pursue can be difficult. Therefore, it is important to understand the different types of social work and understand where your interests lie.

CUWAA offers a wide range of accredited programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our programs are offered in a variety of formats and are taught by highly qualified faculty who are experts in the field. Students can work with community members early in their educational experience.

Our traditional BSW program is designed for students seeking on-campus and full-time academic experience. This program is designed for students who are graduating or transferring from high school. For more information on curriculum and field placement, see the BSW Student Handbook.

Our accelerated BSW program offers flexibility to students who are working or looking for a non-traditional format. This program format is currently 100% online or at our accelerated learning centers in Milwaukee (Miller Park Way Center), Kenosha and Green Bay. See a list of potential field jobs for BSW students. Concordia University in Wisconsin and Ann Arbor offer students an expanded general and clinical concentration. Students who choose the advanced general track will gain a well-rounded knowledge of client systems. The clinical concentration prepares students for licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). For students with or without prior social work experience, the program offers a consistent and advanced MSW format. Students in both formats are placed in different locations to gain the necessary field experience.

As a result, it allows students to complete their MSW in 1 year full-time. Six degrees of separation is the idea that all people are six or fewer social ties apart. As a result, you can create a chain of “heater” statements to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps. This is also known as the six handshake rule.

The concept was first described in a 1929 short story by Friges Carinthia, in which a group of people play a game in which they try to connect anyone in the world to themselves through a chain of five. It was popularized in John Guare’s 1990 play Six Degrees of Separation.

The predictions were expanded in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Carinthia, who published a collection of stories entitled “Everything is Different”. One of these parts is called “Chains” or “Chains”. The studied situation – abstract, conceptual and fantastic terms – are many problems for mathematicians, sociologists, sociologists and physicists to work on network theories in the future.

Thanks to technological advances in communication and travel, networks of free ships can grow larger and cover greater distances. In particular, Carinthia believed that the modern world was “shrinking” because of this ever-increasing human connection. He notes that despite the great physical distance between people around the world, the growing density of human networks has greatly reduced the actual social distance.

As a result of this hypothesis, Carinthian heroes believed that they could connect any two people with a maximum of five acquaintances. In his story, the characters make a game out of this concept. He wrote:

An interesting game was developed from this discussion. One of us proposed the following experiment to prove that the inhabitants of the Earth are closer than ever. We have to choose any person from the 1.5 billion inhabitants of the Earth – anywhere, anytime. He bet us that no more than five people, one of whom was a personal acquaintance, could connect with the chosen one using nothing but a network of personal acquaintances.[5]

This idea directly and indirectly influenced many early ideas in social networks. Carinthia is the founder of the concept of six degrees of separation.

Michael Gurevich did important work in empirically examining the structure of social networks in his 1961 doctoral dissertation under Itiel de Sola Poole at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Manfred Koch, an Austrian mathematician who worked on urban planning, extrapolated these empirical results in his mathematical manuscript Relations and Effects.

In the size of the unstructured U.S. population, “it is clear that any two people communicate with each other through at most two intermediaries. In a [socially] structured population, this is less likely, but still seems likely. Perhaps even more so for the people of the world.” only one bridge is necessary”. Later, they built Monte Carlo simulations based on Gurevich’s data, recognizing the need for weak and strong familiar ties to model social structure. In 1973, a relatively limited number of computer simulations, anticipating the conclusions of the American psychologist Stanley Milgram, showed that the population of the United States was able to predict the existence of a more precise three-level division between

Milgram continued Gurevich’s experiments on dating networks at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Koch and de Sola Poole’s manuscript, Connections and Influences.

It was created in the early 1950s while working at the University of Paris, where Milgram visited and collaborated on their research. Their unpublished manuscript circulated among academics for more than 20 years before being published in 1978. He formalized the mechanics of social networks and studied their mathematical implications (including degree of connectivity). The manuscript left many important questions about networks unanswered, and one of them was the number of degrees of separation in specific social networks. Milgram encountered this challenge when he returned from Paris, which led to the experiments described in The Small World Problem.

Today, the article in “Psychology” caused a great stir for practitioners who are known today, after many formative works have been forgotten.

His 1967 de Sola pond and Koch’s collection of experiments exploring the “small world problem”. Mathematician Boit Mandelbrot, born in Warsaw, grew up in Poland in France, was familiar with the rules of statistics, and also worked with Sola Poole, Koch and Milgram at the University of Paris in the early 1950s (Koch brought Mandelbrot to work at the university). Institute for Advanced Studies and later at IBM in the US). This group of researchers was interested in the interconnectedness of human networks and “social capital”. Milgram’s research showed that people in the United States have an average of three friendships without thinking about global connections; he never used the term “six degrees of separation”. In today’s Psychology Today article, Milgram, Koch, and Carinthia were wrong as the originators of the six-level concept, as widely accepted experiments; The most famous of the term “six degrees of division” may be John Guare, who attributed the value “6” to Marconi.
