The College of Health and Human Services offers continuing education programs in evidence-based practice and health issues relevant to health and human services professionals.
The three school-based social work training courses following the integrated MSW series meet the requirements for the educational component approved by the State of Michigan as a school social worker. We offer two parts of the course.
Social Work Continuing Education Courses
Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK US) is an imaging modality that adds a new and additional dimension of imaging assessment to conventional radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In addition to being a diagnostic tool, MSK US has also been used in research, education and rehabilitation.
Social Work Professionals Continuing Education Courses
These hybrid courses are suitable for many health disciplines such as: PT, OT, MD, etc.
This two-day, 12-hour workshop (Saturday with Friday required) prepares clinicians to implement an evidence-based strategy training program for individuals with cognitive and motor deficits that limit their ability to plan and execute desired movement.
This 7-hour workshop prepares clinicians to better understand sleep health care based on evidence-based course instructor findings from a VA-awarded research grant. Completion of the training offers 7 CE hours.
Despite many advances in the rehabilitation of neurological injuries, neurogenic bowel remains a significant barrier to independence, social participation, and quality of life. This presentation provides a brief overview of neurogenic bowel and patient/caregiver roles and procedures.
Post Msw Continuing Education Series
Assistive technology for individuals with SCI, especially computer and smartphone devices, and the hardware and software that can be used with them, is typically implemented by occupational therapists and its use is well documented in the literature.
Traumatized children often struggle to stay calm and participate in daily activities. This course helps educators understand the child’s brain and understand why it is regulated. Grand Valley State University works hard to provide our social workers with the continuing education hours required by the state of Michigan. Our goal is to provide quality, meaningful and applicable courses for professional social workers. We also provide small, private and intellectual environments to optimize the learning experience.
What social workers need to know about the HIDDEN BIAS requirement – *** Please note that paragraph 2(3) does NOT apply to social work professionals. Dealer training is required each time the driver’s license is renewed. Implicit bias is currently only preliminary, not required in every update cycle. If your license expires before June 22, 2022, you do not have to meet the hidden page requirement yet. If you renew on or after June 22, 2022, you will need at least 1 hour for each year of the license cycle. Example: The duration of the license is 2023 = 1 hour, 2024 = 2 hours, 2025 = 3 hours. Recent license holders will need at least 2 hours within 5 years to obtain their license.
The following programs are approved for continuing education in social work in Michigan through Grand Valley State University’s School of Social Work. Payment is due upon registration for the course. Participants must attend/view the entire program to receive continuing education hours. Partial credit cannot be given.
Groups And Ceu’s

. A passing score of at least 80% on the post-test is required for crediting the course. Upon successful completion of the courses, the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Certificate can be downloaded from Blackboard or the online course system. Interventions for Chronic Pain is a 2-hour online course that meets the pain management requirements for license renewal and includes 2.0 Michigan Social Work Continuing Education credits.
Navigation Social Work Ethics: Practice and Technology in the Era of Pandemic and Beyond is a 5-hour online course that meets ethics requirements for license renewal and includes 5.0 Michigan Social Work Continuing Education credits.
Msu School Of Social Work Continuing Education
Human Trafficking for Social Workers is a 2-hour online course that outlines updated license renewal requirements and includes 2.0 Michigan Social Work Continuing Education credits.
Beginning in September 2022, we plan to offer additional courses for the 2022-2023 series that meet covert vision licensing requirements. The LARA Public Health Code “R 338.7004 Implicit Bias Training Standards” requires that this training be provided in one of the following formats. : 1) Teleconferencing or webinar that allows live synchronous interaction. 2) Live show. 3) Interactive online education.

Professional Education Program Continuing Education For Social Workers
Waiting list policy: With the exception of DHHS programs, our social work programs can be filled based on interest in the content. If the course is full, we will set up a limited waiting list. Those on the course waiting list will be notified as soon as possible if a place is available and the payment is due after application. When the regular registration period ends two days before the class starts, everyone on the list will be notified that we can no longer accept people for the class.
Cancellation policy: If your plans change, you can always transfer your registration to another person. You may choose to deposit the registration fee to use for another course in the future. Cancellations must be notified to adults and the Continuing Education Center at least 48 hours before the start of the class. Cancellations received before the deadline are entitled to a full refund. Social Worker Continuing Education Series
Inclement Weather POLICY: If Grand Valley State University is closed on the day of the program due to inclement weather, classes will also be canceled. If we are open, but it is not safe to participate due to weather conditions, we will refund the price of the class.
