Davidson, P.E. , Program Director The mission of Lipscomb University’s Engineering Management Program is to support the needs of students. About lifelong learning that enhances leadership and technical skills, along with moral guidance to ethically lead an engineering-focused organization. Lipscomb’s Master of Science is an executive-level program that allows students to earn a degree in just 12 months and continue their current career. The degree program consists of a 30-hour curriculum designed to provide students with in-depth research into areas of executive-level job responsibilities within an engineering-oriented organization. Admissions Policy and Procedures Applicants to the Graduate Program must submit the following: 1. Application form. All applicants must complete an application form. The application form is available at the time of admission/graduation. Then click Apply to complete your online application. 2. Application fee. All applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $50 ($75 for international students). 3. Standardized exam scores. The graduate record exam score should be consistent with 154 (oral) 166 (quantitative) 3.6 (analytical writing). Students with these scores will be given priority for admission to the program. 4. Look. You will need two letters of recommendation as follows: One is from the university or a university administrator or professor, and the other is from a professional supervisor/employer or a personal reference. 5. Official transcript. (To print a copy of your health form, go to /forms). 7. FERPA. * The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Law gives students specific rights to access educational records. You must submit this form before registration, even if you are independent of your parents. 8. Restart. A resume detailing the applicant’s work and academic experience is required. 9. Essay goal. Explain your goals and objectives for graduation in a clear and concise essay. There is no minimum word count required. 10. TOEFL. International students require an English as a foreign language exam. (See the section titled “International Students” for more information.) 3 Transfers and Course Exemptions All graduate credit hours may be transferred from another accrediting body, but up to 9 hours will count toward an M.S. In engineering management. The graduate program director or appropriate faculty will evaluate the courses offered for transfer and determine suitability. Courses with grades less than B are not considered for transfer. Special consideration may be given to course exemptions for students with special research and/or experience in a particular field. The exemption is given from examinations passed in grades B and above. You will be charged $170 for each exam you take ($70 for evaluation and recording, and $100 for each construction and management course). You can be exempt for up to 6 hours by exam. Exemption arrangements are made through postgraduate studies in the Faculty of Engineering. Postgraduate credits will not be awarded. Documentation Students must provide satisfactory documentation of personal identification for the off-site learning experience required by many Lipscomb University Graduate Studies programs. If you do not provide the appropriate qualifications, you will not be able to complete your desired course of study. For the complete policy, see the section titled “Documents Required for an Off-Site Learning Experience” in the first section of this catalog. Student Classification Students may enroll in one of five categories of graduate courses: 1. Graduate students: Students who meet all admission requirements. (Undergraduate GPA is 3.0.) Students must be graduates of ABET accredited bodies, all others are determined on a case-by-case basis. Students with incomplete admission files may be accepted into the program at the discretion of the Program Director, but will be placed on academic hold which will prevent them from enrolling in the next semester. Upon receipt of the appropriate admission letter, the hold will be lifted and students will be able to enroll in the next semester. 2. Conditionally enrolled students: Students who enroll conditionally, at the discretion of the Program Director, without meeting all entry requirements. Students enrolled according to the following criteria may be required to complete at least 9 hours of graduate work with a grade of B or higher before conditional admission is granted. a. From a non-accredited school or if you have a GPA or GRE score below your admission requirements. b. Transfer students with a graduate GPA of 2.50 to transfer students must be in good standing at the previous institution. 3. Non-degree students: Students admitted to graduate school who meet all admission requirements except GPA. Students may take up to 9 semesters to earn graduate credits. These hours apply to the Master’s program if the student earns a grade of B or higher in a credit course, meets all admission requirements (GPA), and is officially enrolled in a graduate program as an existing degree. 4 Academic Policy Course Load Students enrolled for 9 hours are considered full-time students. Students enrolled for 6 hours are considered part-time students. Students enrolled for less than 6 hours are considered part-time students. Students may not register for more than 12 hours per semester without special permission from the graduate program director. Academic tannery 1. Outstanding academic tannery: M.S. to maintain excellent academic standing. Engineering management students must maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA and a 3.00 GPA in the last 12 semesters of work. 2. Probation: If the student’s cumulative graduate GPA falls below 3.00, he or she will be placed on probation. Students on probation cannot register for more than 6 hours during the period of probation. Students on probation must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.00 by the time they complete the next 9 hours of coursework. You can repeat the course to achieve the required GPA. Once the required GPA is achieved, the probationary status will be removed. 3. Suspension: Failure to achieve the required GPA will result in the student being suspended from graduate studies at Lip Scone for the next semester, after which the student may apply for re-enrollment. Students may be required to appear before the graduate committee. Failing grades do not carry credit towards the degree, but are taken into account in the calculation of the scholarship level unless they are replaced by higher grades by repeating the course. You must maintain a 3.00 GPA to be eligible for financial aid. 4. Appeal: An appeal of a rusticated decision must be made in writing to the Vice President for academic development and graduate studies. The appeal must be received by 4:30pm. The Monday of the week before the start of the semester the student wishes to re-register. Bachelor’s Degree Requirements A formal residency period is not required for a Masters in Residence. All MS Prescription Law Requirements A Bachelor of Engineering in Business Administration degree must be completed within 5 years of initial admission. Candidates for the program do not mean admission to candidacy for a master’s degree. To earn a degree in the MS process, students must be granted candidacy. To register for candidacy, students must fulfill the following: 1. If conditionally registered, complete all required faculty deficiencies. 2. Complete at least 12 hours
