The College’s Early Childhood Education qualification will provide hands – on training, theoretical knowledge and field experiences in childcare, preschool and primary settings to prepare you for your career.
The Certificate in Early Childhood Education is designed to prepare you to work as a teacher, co-teacher or administrator in early childhood programs, including center-based childcare, nurseries and programs Head Start. Online Bachelor’s Degree In Early Childhood Education
Your education will help you gain the qualifications you need to take the next step in your career. Our B.A. Early Childhood Education (K-Class 5) requires a total of 128 credit hours: 21 core curricula, 45 hours of general content, 13 pre-resources, 12 hours of core vocational education hours and 37 hours of basic early childhood education.
Basic knowledge courses provide students with a broad introduction to a variety of subject areas and help develop the skills necessary for academic and personal success. 8-10 of these credits will be covered by the principal.
An introduction to the historical, sociological and philosophical foundations of education, including an understanding of the moral, social and political dimensions of classroom and school teaching. The focus is on education as a career. It is designed to enable career exploration.
Site setting component for ED 202. Twenty hours of observation, one-to-one tutoring or other classroom-related activities on three separate trips to classrooms representing undergraduate areas ECE, MCE and EYA. Must be taken by ED 202.
Requirements For Early Childhood Education Certification
An examination of the theory of development, learning and teaching and its practical application in effective teaching in diverse communities. It examines the psychological foundations of student variability, behavioral and cognitive theories of learning, information handling, motivational theories, grading practices, and the evaluation of student learning. Research findings and current best practice in the above areas will be explored in terms of creating a positive learning environment in the classroom. Prerequisite: PY 201 or similar.
An overview of the life expectancy of students with special learning needs. The focus will be on aspects of mental, sensory, physical, communication, social and emotional development that influence changeable learning and behavior. Discussion of issues related to education, family life, and federal and state legislation. The focus will be on the thirteen legal barriers and how to prepare for these students. Prerequisite: PY 201
Approximately 10 hours of appropriate placement as confirmed by the Instructor and / or Work Placement Director. This course will provide time to organize and reflect on site experiences in classrooms with students with learning differences. Must be taken by ED 205.
This course covers the science of human behavior and mental processes. Emphasis is placed on the principles, methods, and theories of modern psychology. Key topics covered include research design, lifelong development, personality, learning, memory, biopsychology and psychopathology. Prerequisite: None. (Student learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4)
Associates Degree Early Childhood Education
An intermediate course to integrate technology into the classroom, including assistive technology aimed at students with different and specific needs. Trainers will be open to basic technology activity for personal and professional use, address the social, ethical and human issues of living in a digital society, and use a teaching method that encourages technology as a tool in the learning process.
Exploring the principles of the curriculum that will influence the planning of teaching activities for students. The concept of Overview Design is emphasized. Prerequisite: Completion of ALL other training courses and 90 percent content work. In one or two semesters after completing this course, the student should be ready to teach. ED 341 is ahead of ED 342.
Research on the principles and application of classroom management techniques. This course will cover the causes of student misbehavior and how to deal effectively with common behavioral problems. Practical experiences, case examples and exercises will encourage greater skills in recognizing and valuing the environment, the student, inappropriate behavior and the influence of the individual teacher’s style / philosophy on management class. Through site knowledge in an undergraduate field (Pre-K-3, MCE, or AYA-Secondary), students on this course will learn how to evaluate intervention strategies and design a classroom management plan which is meaningful to students in their classes. The content covers strategies for parent / professional collaboration. The information provided will allow participants to immediately implement strategies in a variety of school, mental health and human services settings and gain knowledge of the social, behavioral and academic needs of students in the key area. Ten (10) hours of fieldwork are embedded in this course.
An integrated conference with a focus on understanding current issues affecting the practice of education and training in the United States and the role of the professional educator in addressing these challenges. Students must complete and submit an electronic package before completing this course. High status is required. It should be taken immediately before student instruction.

An understanding of the nature and place of word recognition literacy. This course analyzes phonological awareness, phonics awareness, phonics, structural analysis and the use of morphemic units in coding, spelling and reading and writing. Knowledge of how to evaluate and intervene in word recognition through informal assessments is also explored. This should be the first reading course taken. Prerequisite: ED 202, 203, 204, 205, 206.
This introductory course provides an overview of the history, philosophy, and teaching goals of pre-K-9 students. It emphasizes the study of curriculum organization appropriate for development, the need to integrate the curriculum, and multiple strategies for assessing and evaluating student achievement.
