As it turned out, January was my new credit card month. I’m not talking about the new credit cards I applied for (although I did apply for the Citi Prestige card), but the new physical cards for existing accounts. Usually, I don’t ask for new cards unless the account is compromised. However, Chase recently distributed contact cards for almost its entire credit card portfolio. With this expansion, Chase is encouraging customers to look for new contactless cards.

Personally, I’m a strong supporter of this move to contactless credit cards. I prefer the touch and go feature of using a contactless card instead of chip technology. I have also noticed in recent months that more and more merchants are realizing that contactless cards and how they work. Many of me didn’t think their chip readers would accept contactless payment.

However, in the last few months I have spent a lot of time reviewing my open credit card accounts and applying for contactless cards for accounts where I have not yet received a new card. The last card I received through this process was an updated Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card. Not only was this new card contactless, it also featured the brand new Marriott Bonvoy. Until now I only had an old Marriott Rewards Premier card.

Chase makes applying for a new credit card incredibly easy. The online account function is definitely an area where Chase dominates. To apply for a new Chase credit card, you must first log into your Chase credit card account. Once you’re signed in, select the credit card account you want to apply for a new card for. Then, on the right side of the page, scroll down and click “do what you can.” From this menu you can click on “Replace lost or damaged card”.

After you click this option, Chase will redirect you to the “replace card” webpage. On this page you can change your card account and choose the reason for changing the card. One of the options available should be “my card needs to be reissued” and within this option there is text that allows you to use this option if you need a tap to pay card.

After selecting this option, you will need to confirm the reissue of your card. If you know where your card is, be sure to use this option, as your card number will remain unchanged. This is important if you have recurring payments that are credited to your card account. If your card is lost or stolen, select the lost or stolen option to allow Chase to send you a new card with a new account number.

Like most convertible credit cards, my new card came in a plain white envelope. Inside I felt the familiar feeling of a credit card in the right third of the envelope. It’s always a sure fire sign that there’s a new credit card inside. Of course, that’s exactly what I found when I opened the envelope.

Chase Launches Co Branded Marriott Bonvoy Rewards Card With Tap And Go Function

My new contactless Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card was taped to a sheet of paper. That document contained important information, such as the last 4 digits of my new card (for verification), my credit limit, and my cash line limit. The document also provides instructions for activating my new credit card. Of course, this information is also on the sticker on the front of the card.

Finally, at the bottom of the page was a brief overview of some of the benefits of the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card. Specifically, this area served as a reminder that the card will earn 6X Marriott points on Marriott properties and 2X other points on purchases. Of course, the card also comes with 35,000 free anniversary points, which is the main reason to keep the account open.

Shortly after opening the envelope, I pulled the card out of the paper and called Chase to activate the card. The activation only took a few short moments. Then I took a closer look at the new design of the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card.

Now, this message is not meant to criticize the type of credit card, but I personally hate the new type of card. Even worse, I still hate him

Chase Launches Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature Business Credit Card For Small Business Owners On The Go

The Marriott Rewards card was historically a thick, dark black metal card. The card felt solid and was among the first metal credit cards to hit the market a few years ago. Surprisingly, Chase and Marriott opted for a standard plastic credit card instead of the standard Marriott Bonvoy Boundless credit card.

It doesn’t help that I’m just not a fan of the Marriott Bonvoy name or brand. I’ve never been used to the weird little “o” in Bonvoi that has an orange line underneath it. Similarly, I don’t like the orange line on the new Bonvoy Boundless card, which matches the same orange “o” to start the word Bonvoy. Of course, I don’t like all the other lines and “o’s” scattered all over the front of the card either… All I can say is that I’m thankful this card is around 360 days a year.

If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend that you review your credit cards to see if they still have a contact feature. I will then contact each card issuer to see if they offer a contactless version of your card. They might make it a problem for you to request a duplicate card (since you haven’t lost your current card), but I’ll try anyway. Fortunately, Chase makes requesting cards incredibly easy and even has the ability to request a contact card on their website.

Contactless payment is much faster and easier than traditional swipe or chip technology. I’ve never been used to using a chip to read and I’ve never enjoyed it. I prefer to just tap my card into the payment terminal to complete the transaction. Needless to say, I’m very pleased to see card issuers and payment companies moving towards contactless payment.
