Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card Changes: New Categories, Elite Credits

Chase and American Express currently issue a total of four Marriott credit cards, and the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card is a value for the casual traveller. With a $95 annual fee, cardholders receive undeniable benefits such as a free night of up to 35,000 points for each card anniversary, Silver Elite status, and strong travel and shopping protection.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card has an updated welcome offer, earning categories, and a new way to earn Elite Nightly Consumption Rebates:

These changes are gradual and the welcome bonus may not be as compelling as the previous offer, which earned 100,000 points after meeting the minimum spend requirement, simply because the points are more flexible than free night vouchers.

Here we will focus on the rewards and benefits that each card provides. These cards are not worth it if you are paying interest or late payments. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only use what you can afford to pay.

New Marriott’s Credit Cards: Which Card Is Best For You?

The card now offers 5 free nights (up to 50,000 points each) after you spend $5,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening an account.

However, if you know how to best use your Marriott points, you can get much more out of this bonus. For example, W Miami can easily top $650 a night, but you can pay as little as 40,000 points on the same day. This value is 1.6+ cents per point. By using your bonus at this hotel, you can earn over $1,900.

Additionally, Marriott will allow you to use up to 15,000 Marriott Points along with your certificate. This means that you can use your certificates to book hotels with a maximum value of 65,000 points per night.

People who want to redeem points at lower-end Marriott hotels will notice that you lose value if you book a hotel under 50,000 points. For example, if you book a Marriott hotel for 20,000 points per night, you will still use your voucher for a full free night.

Chase And Marriott International Announce New Name, Look And Feel For Their Credit Cards Under The New Marriott Bonvoy™ Travel Program

Previously, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card only earned 6 points per dollar at Marriott and 2 points per dollar on all other eligible purchases. The map has been updated to earn the following:

These new 3x categories are a nice little surprise bonus for cardholders, even if it only means 6,000 additional Marriott points per year. Insiders estimate that this will give the card an additional $42 in annual value if you spend the entire $6,000 in a year.

Unless you are only interested in Marriott Points, we do not recommend using your Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® credit card at grocery stores, gas stations, or restaurants. There are other cards that offer significantly higher returns for these categories. You can learn more about them in the following guides:

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card now entitles you to high-spend elite nights. For every $5,000 you spend on this card, you will receive a credit for one elite night. There is no upper limit to the amount of Elite you earn by consuming.

Should You Accept The Marriott 15 Elite Night Upgrade Offer? Will I?

In other words, you could theoretically spend your way to the prestigious Marriott Titanium status without ever stepping into a hotel. However, this benefit is unlikely to benefit most cardholders – spending $5,000 is a lot, and many of us can only get one or two elite nights a year from this benefit.

If you’re interested in achieving Marriott Elite status through consumption, you’ll do better with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card, which earns you Platinum Elite status after you spend $75,000 on purchases during a calendar year. That’s significantly less than what you would pay with a Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® credit card for the same elite status.

Please be aware that Marriott credit cards, including the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® credit card, already include 15 automatic elite nights per year, which can also be beneficial for frequent travelers looking to take their Marriott status to the next level.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card now has some new features that may not interest you to open the card if you weren’t interested before, but will be a welcome surprise for current cardholders.

Today we also see new updates to both Marriott credit cards issued by Chase: Marriott Bonvoy Bold and Marriott Bonvoy Boundless. While these offers are slightly less attractive and may be less attractive due to Marriott’s complex credit card regulations, they are nonetheless very good deals to consider if you are looking for a Chase Marriott card.

FM Mini Review: The best way to use this card is probably to switch from a Ritz or Boundless card to avoid annual fees. This way you can always upgrade again when you need your yearly free night or other benefits.
